Roughly 40 miles from Birmingham, Alabama, near the towns of Anniston and Oxford, Coldwater Mountain serves up a growing network of trails built specifically for mountain biking but offers recreation of all sorts, including trail running. The 4,000-acre land tract was bought in the late 1990s by Alabama's Forever Wild organization-a land preservation program-and is managed by the state.
