The best race course in the tri-state region - by , 10/01/2017
5/ 5stars
Aside from the awesome venue, the swim, bike, and run routes were optimized for speed and simplicity. The out and back swim to the Arlington bridge was easy to sight and large buoys further aided in navigation. The bike route was my favorite, with fast, super slab roads perfect for any experience level cyclist. The run was well supported and super flat, with only a single lap distance. I would definitely do this race again!
Smaller, better, could just improve on the bib pickup - by , 10/01/2017

I have been racing in Nation's tri , olympic distance since 2013 and really appreciated the smaller size / Number of participants this year, as well as the new method fir the swim start. I made the start go faster and this was a Massive improvement on the past years. One suggestion for the location of the packet pick-up: why nit do it just next to the transition area? There is plenty of space to accommodate the packet pick-up there, no need to go elsewhere. The location that was vhosen this year made the pickup very cumbersome fir no reason. In addition, the expo was tiny. Oh, and one other comment: medals and merchandizing we not at all as good as in the past. We loved the medals and T-shirta the displayed features of the nation's capital... please bring these back.
Not as good as before - by , 10/01/2017
2/ 2stars
The pre race being outside (what if it rained?) as well as the 20 minute delayed start. And the poor post race experience really turned me off the the escape series. From the generic medal to the sad finisher food, i feel let down from having done this race before.

This was my first triathlon experience and I loved it. Swim course was well marked and so were bike and run.
Not great compared to the 2 other times I've done it - by , 09/30/2017

The event itself is awesome to be able to do this and see the landmarks all around... things I didn't like this year compared to the 2 previous years I've done this event... The day before the event was always held indoors and the bag and shirt great... this year the bag had no triathlon info on it... the shirt when you wear it sticks to your back... it's awful! The post race food was poor and the medal was the worse medal I've ever gotten... not a single D.C. Landmark... and then found out that the Philadelphia Triathlon had the same generic medal.... lots of people are extremely upset about these things... seems Escape Triathlon Series is not setting themselves up for future events I will include previous years medals to view the difference
Pre-race kinks to work through - by , 09/30/2017
3/ 3stars
The race morning shuttle from the Omni Shoreham wasn't well organized. There appeared to be only two shuttles from the hotel and participants anxiously waited at the hotel for the shuttles to complete there drop off and return. We waited from 545-6 and when the shuttles arrived, we were told these were the last shuttles which surely resulted in some people unable to race since the website said the last shuttle would be at 610 or 615 (don't recall exact timing). The shuttle driver then had difficulty getting through the road closures as he didn't seem to have been told how to do this. I needed to speak with the police so that they'd let us through.
Great Race - by , 09/29/2017
5/ 5stars
I thought the overall race was great. Beautiful course and a great day for racing. Two things they could improve on: the race expo was outdoors, which is a great idea, but it seemed very small and sort of disorganized. It may have been smaller due to the smaller number of participants this year though. Second: the medals need to be improved. Typically a race medal has something to do with the city or venue. The medal was generic with only the name of the race on the lanyard of the medal. Really though, the race itself is great and I really enjoyed the race and all of the people involved did a great job.

For a newbie, the race logisitic were a bit overwhelming especially getting my bike to the transition. However, race day was a phenomenal experience! The course was well laid out and marked and gave an excellent trip through DC
