The capital of Tocantins is located right in the lush landscape of the savannah in the heart of the country. The city was planned based in a sustainable development project where the environment and man are at the center, and boasts modern architecture and wide avenues. Palmas is endowed with a great scenic beauty ecosystem with urban parks, gardens and strategically designed green areas.
The city has a well-designed road system, and its urban zoning is modeled on that of Brasilia, the capital developed in the Amazon Basin. In Palmas a symmetrical park was developed at the city centre. Palmas is close to Taquarussu, an ecotourism resort and village located in the hills.
