The beautiful city of Hobart will provide a playing field like no other, including Oceania's first ever completely indoor transition right next to historic sandstone buildings of Salamanca. Check in, event village, swim start, and finish all together in the heart of the city, and with plenty of great places to stay and play within walking distance.
Swim start is from one of the famous piers into the cool, calm waters of the River Derwent, followed by a testing bike course delivering the most vertical gain of any IRONMAN 70.3 race in Oceania. The run heads through the historic ports and out towards Cornelian Bay, before returning to that famous red carpet and the finish line of IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania.

1.9km ROKA Swim Course
Your 1.9km Roka swim takes place in the cool, calm waters of the mighty River Derwent in Sullivans Cove. You'll experience a unique start, by taking a dive off the back of Brooke St Pier - Australia's largest floating pontoon. Athletes will be released in a rolling start format.
The course runs parallel to Princes Wharf No.1 (the location of transition) in a clockwise aP shape' direction. The first stretch is a straight 600m, before turning right to hug the shoreline around Battery Point.
On the home straight, listen for the spectators cheering you on along the docks. Exit the water up the scaffold stairs in Waterman's Dock to complete a short 200m run into transition inside Princes Wharf No. 1.
90km Bike Course
With 1100m of total elevation, 70.3 Tasmania takes the title as the bike course with the most elevation on the Oceania circuit, so you'll want to include plenty of climbing in your training. Of course, what goes up must also come down and the views across the River Derwent and back to kunanyi / Mt Wellington, are worth it.
The 90km bike course includes plenty of variation to keep you focused. First, head south along Castray Esplanade, before U-turning at Battery Point and riding through the historic port of Hobart including Franklins Wharf and Constitution Dock. The highway underpass will bring you out to the Western side of the Tasman Highway. Continue north towards Queens Domain and Cornelian Bay. Pay attention heading into the technical residential streets of Lutana, Derwent Park, and Goodwood and be ready to change down gears as this section includes the first significant climbs of the day.
From Goodwood Road turn left to complete the Derwent Entertainment Centre (DEC)/MyState Arena loop. This marks the start of the first of two 34km laps. Heading South, complete two U-turns at Grass Tree Hill and Risdon. The course will continue north along East Derwent Highway and the River Derwent. Get familiar with Otago Hill, as you'll conquer it four times within the two laps! Return over Bowen Bridge to commence your second lap with another loop around the Derwent Entertainment Centre (DEC)/MyState Arena.
After completing your second lap, ride south again back through the technical section of Lutana, Goodwood and Cornelian Bay. There's a quick extension section along the water's edge of Domain Highway before returning to T1 through the iconic Hobart waterfront precinct.
21.1km HOKA Run Course
After all the that climbing, you can look forward to a predominately flat and fast two-lap run course on one of the most popular running routes in Hobart.
Exiting Princes Wharf No.1 transition on the waters side, run south along Castray Esplanade, turning around at Battery Point by the water's edge. From here, the course hugs the water's edge heading North, through Franklin Wharf and Constitution Dock, before passing the famous Hobart Regatta Grounds and Hobart Cenotaph.
Continue North on the Intercity Cycleway, underneath the Tasman Bridge and past the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. Approximately 1km past the Tasman Bridge you'll reach the Northern turnaround point.
Return the way you came and make sure to catch a glimpse of the famous red carpet as you pass transition to begin your second lap a" because you'll be back to celebrate at the finish line very soon!
