Created in 2005, the Hairy Gorilla Half Marathon and Squirrelly Six Mile is an event unlike any other. With giant gorillas and squirrels chasing after you, graveyards bearing your name, a chainsaw-wielding maniac in the midst, and plenty of other unique encounters to be had, it's no wonder Runnersworld dubbed it the best Costume Trail Race in America! Sections of the course are decorated in the spirit of Halloween and we also have several special categories including best pumpkin carving! The Hairy Gorilla Half Marathon and Squirrelly Six Mile is a trail race held nearly 1000 feet above Albany, NY on the Helderberg Escarpment at Thacher State Park. The views are breathtaking and the course offers a plentiful variety of all types of terrain and topography. Trail shoes are suggested. Some parts of the course may be wet depending upon recent weather activity at the park. There are some trail sections with rocks, roots, and other obstacles. At other times, it's on luscious grass.
