ABOUT THIS RACE:
Race Starting Location:
Lake Welch Beach, 800 Kanawauke Rd, Stony Point, NY
The Suffer'n Bear is a Running race in Stony Point, New York consisting of a 50 Mile Trail Run (Ultra) and 50K (Ultra) and Half Marathon.
A Redpoint ultra trail event presented by and benefitting the NYNJ Trail Conference. Harriman State Park is home to more than just the AT. With over 200 miles of trail, it's home to some of the most challenging terrain in the NE.
We've put together a NON-LOOPING course. 50Miles, 50K and 13.1 of unique trails. The 50miler brags ~10k elevation gain and the 50K over 6k.
It will be the first annual event, even though we've been a part of hosting ultras in Harriman/Bear for over a decade! Come join us!
BENEFITTING THE NYNJ Trail Conference!
None of this would be possible without the hard work of the NYNJ Trail Conference team. They continue to maintain and develop these unique trails year after year.
COURSE
Starting at Lake Welch Beach the course finds some of the best single track and flowy trails in a days drive of NYC, Boston, Philly... It will climb to some amazing vistas and run along side some of the Seven Lakes.
AID STATIONS
Aid Stations will be every 4-7 miles throughout the course. Some will be fully stocked and staffed. Others will be self-service with water, electrolytes and simple fuels like gels and chews
The Half Marathon will have 2 aid stations
The 50K will visit 6 aid stations
The 50 Mile will visit 9-10 Aid Stations
Amazing volunteers will treat you to some great food at the staffed stations. We typically like to have Skratch at our events for a drink. There will be the normal ultra running staples, like PB&J, pretzels, chips, some candy and fruit... and of course broth and perogies. And don't discount the possibility of quesadillas, wraps or bacon either ... we do take requests and are happy to try to accommodate as best we can.
CREW / SPECTATORS / PACERS
50mile and 50K crews and spectators will have access to at least 4 of the aid stations / course locations to crew and cheer for racers
There will be no crew, pacers or spectator access along the half marathon route. 50K pacers can join their racer at Mile 22 only (Tiorati Circle). 50Mile pacers can join their racer at mile 28 or 38 (Anthony Wayne).
