Millinocket Marathon - Millinocket, Maine - Running

"My 1st Marathon at age 62"

I have run most of my life, have done 5 and 10 Ks, half marathons and never a full. So I signed up for the Millinocket Marathon, I live in Northern Maine and my husband owned and operated a log yard so I have a lot of compassion for the More... town of Millinocket. I also train all year so I didn't think a December race in Millinocket would be unbearable. The atmosphere is outstanding in Millinocket - the day before the race I went down to pick up my bib and to shop - it was wonderful - everyone was so kind, helpful, and friendly. The day of the race was sub zero temperatures and windy. I got there, excitement filled the frigid air, compassion and giving know no bounds in Millinocket - everything was donated!!!! A local contractor had graded and sanded part of the route -as a donation. The porta potties were donated, water stations - again by donation. Everything was donated - everyone was so kind and helpful - from the people in the community, to race volunteers, and the runners. I met so many new friends, I listened as each one said they had been there before and came back because of the community and atmosphere. I can see why, I am signed up for next year. Friends, if you have never run Millinocket - you are missing out on a real life experience - I don't care how many states you have run in - this is unique!!!! Hope to see you December 2019
