Beneficiary:
We are proud to announce that our Beneficiary this year will be Reading Partners Baltimore.
Reading Partners places community volunteers in low-income schools to help kids master basic reading. We've been part of the Baltimore educational landscape since 2012, when we opened our first reading center at Friendship Academy at Cherry Hill with the strong support of the Baltimore City education community. According to the Maryland State Assessment, only slightly more than half of Baltimore third graders from low-income families can read at grade level. Without reading, kids won't have an equitable chance to succeed. As decades of research have shown, students from disadvantaged households perform less well in school, on average, than their peers. Reading Partners is proud to be a driving force in uniting the greater Baltimore community to improve students' academic achievement. By partnering with Baltimore community members and leaders from local school districts, government, corporations, community organizations, universities, churches, and more, we're mobilizing the people who care about Baltimore's children to give back to local schools in a meaningful way. We believe that together we can create a future where every child in Baltimore has the support they need to become strong readers and lifelong learners.
