Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote - Canary Islands - Triathlon

The Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote is a Triathlon race in Canary Islands, consisting of a Half Ironman.

Race On Another Planet
Not far from the northwest coast of Africa, the IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote boasts a breath-taking course that takes place in some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe. Years of constant eruptions created a lunar landscape, unique in Europe, where athletes will experience racing in a venue never discovered before. The race venue Playa Blanca is in the south side of Lanzarote.

This race offers qualifying slots for the VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.

Swim
The swim course is starting and finishing at Marina RubicA³n harbour, Playa Blanca, and consists of 1 lap. The average water temperature at this time of the year is around 22/23 degrees. It will be announced at the technical meeting if the use of the wetsuit will be permitted.

Rolling Swim Start
1. Only for Age Groups
As part of IRONMAN's racing enhancements, IRONMAN 70.3 Lanzarote will utilise the "Rolling Swim Start."
This starting method has been introduced in all the IRONMAN events in the world.

2. What is a Rolling Start?
At the Rolling start, all the athletes will leave over approximately 10 minutes, participants are arranged in groups in the swimming sector, each race time will begin when the athlete passes the starting line.

3. How does the Rolling Start work?
The swimming start area will be divided into different zones:

07:00 a" PROM
07:05 a" PRO F
07:07 a" PC Open.
07:10 - 08:20: AG.
Age Group athletes will be ranked in designated zones based on their estimated swim time.

These will be the established areas:

< 25A´
< 35A´
< 45A´
> 45A´
*The cut-off time of 1:10 h. from single outlet.

Athletes' chips will be activated when crossing the start mat, right at the swim start arch.

4. Why switch to a Rolling start?
It is part of the "Global IRONMAN Swim Intelligence" initiative aimed at increasing safety and reducing anxiety in swimming.

Allows for a single swim lap, reducing congestion. It allows athletes to swim at their own pace and improve the overall swimming experience.

We have received positive feedback and results from IRONMANs around the world.

Bike
The new cycling circuit will consist of 3 laps (2 long ones of 40km and one short one of 10km) to complete the 90km in the southern part of the island.

Aid Stations:
Aid Station 1 - Maciot 8km / 44km / 80km: 226ERS Hydrazero, water and 226ERS Energy Bars.
Aid Station 2 - Playa Blanca 38km / 74km / 88km: 226ERS Hydrazero, water, banana.
In the cycling segment, water will be offered in 700ml bottles, with a sports cap from the Aquavia brand. The bottle fits perfectly into standard bike mounts.

226ERS Energy Bars Flavors: Dark Chocolate with BCAAs, Cinnamon Apple with BCAAs, White Chocolate and Strawberries
226ERS Hydrazero Flavor: Lemon and Tropical.

Run
The 21.1km four-lap course takes place in Playa Blanca, where athletes enjoy the circular course that passes along the seafront promenade and crosses the harbour before culminating in a short stretch to the finish line.

Refreshments for the running segment
Throughout the run course there will be 3 aid stations available that the athletes will pass 4 times:
Water Aidstation (Approx. 300m).
Aid Station 1 (Approx. 2.8 Km, 7.7 Km, 12.6Km, 17.6Km): Coca Cola, water, fruit, 226ERS Hydrazero & Vaseline.
The Special Aid Station will be located at the Aid Station 1.
Aid Station 2 (Approx. 5Km, 10Km, 15Km, 20Km): water, Coca Cola, 226ERS Hydrazero.
Aid Station 3: (Approx. 6Km, 11Km, 16Km, 21Km): Coca Cola, water, fruit, 226ERS Energy Gels, 226ERS Hydrazero.
