Fabulous Tri for Me

I participated in the race the very first year. It was my second tri ever and I did it. My first tri was an awful experience and I just didn't want it to color my ideas of a tri. Well, it was wonderful. All women - who helped each other out and worked together to get everyone set up in the transition area. The swim - 3 lifeguard stations long (and if you panic in the water, you can stand up). Running through the soft sand to get to the transition area is a bummer. The bike portion is okay. If they would shut down the street this race would definitely be a 5. Traffic and restaurant delivery trucks can slow you down. Police presence is solid and very helpful (much better the second year than the first). Then there is the run. You go through soft sand until you get to the beach. You have to watch out for tourists and turtles, but the breeze from the ocean is nice. The first year medal was amazing with its mermaid theme and so was the singlet. And the trucker hat. And the second year there was this amazing dress and interesting wooden medal (not quite wearable though). I will do it again and again. The after party is great, especially considering the size of the race. The location is stunning.
