Black Hills Veteran's March by Steven Nelson

The Black Hills Veteran's March is a 26.2 mile walk/run/marathon or a shorter version of 16 miles for a walk/run. It test your endurance and gives you an idea of what veteran's had to go through in different earlier wars. The Veteran's March goes through the forest of the Black Hills and is a wonderful sight to see. It is challenging but very doable. I've completed the full March several years in a row while in full military uniform and carrying the US and POW/MIA flags. There are plenty of rest stops along the way with a variety of refreshments and snacks. There are also aid stations at each rest stop that can attend to anything you may start suffering from, i.e., foot hot spots, leg muscle cramps, aches, etc. There are also first aid personnel riding the trail on bikes in-between the stops to assist with injuries. It's very overwhelming to hear the cheers along the route, entering Deadwood and crossing the finish line. It's well worth the pain at the end but they have food, drink and even massage stations to ease those pains. The Veteran's March uses all funds to support our veterans so PLEASE sign up for the annual event and support the veteran organizations.
