Not surprisingly, the 5K remains the #1 race distance in the U.S, both in terms of numbers of finishers and total number of races. It's the perfect distance for a new runner to tackle, but also a great tune-up race for the competitive runner; and it takes almost no time to recover from. More often than not, it's a nice short "fun run," with opportunities for kids to participate.
