The Outdoorsman Triathlon is a Triathlon race in Bryson City, North Carolina consisting of a Super Sprint.
Held the last full weekend of September in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina the Outdoorsman is the oldest, continuous triathlon in the nation. The 1 mile swim is held on the finger lakes of Lake Fontana. From there, participants take off on a 4 mile run through the trees and up the punishing Needmore Hill. After a long down hill run, participants jump into their canoes for a 4 mile paddle through class I-III whitewater on the Little Tennessee River only to round the final bend and be faced with 4 more miles across Lake Fontana to the finish.
