Race in a Sensational Destination
A festival weekend of racing is coming to Nelson Mandela Bay South Africa! A city full of rich history, pride, and memories is renowned as the home of IRONMAN racing in South Africa. Introducing the IRONMAN 70.3 Nelson Mandela Bay.
Known for its golden beaches, friendly people and all-round tourist destination on your doorstep, Nelson Mandela Bay is the perfect haven for triathlon racing. This early season race will give athletes the opportunity to work towards a fresh new goal and race along side the IRONMAN African Championship athletes in 2024.
Swim
The one-loop 1.9 km (1.2 mile) swim start returns to Hobie Beach. Athletes head out to the first ROKA turn buoy and turn left swimming parallel to the shoreline. At the second red buoy, the 70.3 course turns left to cross the middle of the IRONMAN course, turning left again and right at the last red buoy. The course goes past Humewood Beach before turning and heading back towards Hobie Beach.
Bike
The one-loop 90.1km (56 mile) bike course takes athletes right out of Transition along Marine Drive towards Settlers Highway. From here athletes will ride through the suburbs along Walmer Bouleward (M9) / Heugh Road / Buffelsfontein, through Mount Pleasant and over the hill to Seaview. From Seaview athletes will continue along to the Village of Beachview and over the iconic Maitlands, before turning approximately 1.3km from De Stades Road. From this turnaround point, athletes will return along the same route to the intersection of Seaview & Heron Road. Here you will turn right onto Heron, left onto Sardinia Bay road, right onto Victoria Drive where you will descend into the quaint seaside suburb of Schoenmakerskop. Turning left onto Marine drive to enjoy sweeping views of the ocean, the rugged coastline and adjacent countryside all the way back to Transition at Hobie Beach.
Run
The 21.1 km (13.1 mile) run course takes athletes right out of Hobie Beach to Perrot Avenue for the first turnaround, heading back through the Summerstrand and Humewood beach fronts along Marine Drive, to Flat Rocks to turn for the second time. Once you have completed 21.1km's, you will enter the finish line chute at Hobie Beach and head down the magic red carpet of the Finish Line!
