The Men Behind The Smiles Legacy 5K is a Running race in Chilhowie, Virginia consisting of a 5K.

The families of Will Walker and Trooper Lucas Dowell are moved to tell you about a joint endeavor to raise money for Operation Smile. Will and Lucas were both known for their smiles. They were lifelong friends who tragically lost their lives within four months of one another within the year. Their families have joined together to create this event with hopes to bring healing smiles and joy to others. This is the legacy of the Men Behind the Smiles.

We are planning a 5K Run/Walk. This will be a morning event starting at 9:00 am. The race will take place on the streets of Chilhowie. Along theKeep Reading way, participants will pass the sites of Lucas B. Dowell Memorial Park and Will Walker Farmers Market and Community Pavilion.

This is a charitable event set up in hopes to bring joy to other families just as Will and Lucas did. All proceeds of this event will go to Operation Smile. This organization is Virginia based and is an international medical charity that has provided hundreds of thousands of free surgeries for children and adults in developing countries who are born with cleft lip, cleft palate or other facial deformities.
