About The Danish Capital of Texas 5K

The Danish Capital of Texas 5K is a Running race in Danevang, Texas consisting of a Kids Run/Fun Run and 1 Mile and 5K.

The Danish Heritage Preservation Society & Museum will be hosting its annual fund-raiser and 5K Fun Run in the culturally-significant town Danevang, Texas approximately an hour southwest of Houston near the town of El Campo. We are working to enlist participation of the Danish expatriate community and other Danish-born and ask you to join us in the celebration of the Danish contribution to Texas' cultural heritage.

Danevang stands out as the home to a concentrated group of tough Danish immigrants that settled there in the 1890's and established a community firmly-rooted in the culture and values of Denmark while assimilating with that of the "native" hispanic and anglo inhabitants. AKeep Reading church, school and farmers cooperative became the core of the community and a Museum devoted to the preservation of its Danish culture was founded in 2006.
