Go Leo Go 5K - Irmo, South Carolina - Running

The Go Leo Go 5K is a Running race in Irmo, South Carolina consisting of a 5K.

Leo Joseph Bugenske was born November 1, 2013. Three weeks later, he was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Type I. Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a neuromuscular disease that affects motor neurons and causes weakness and wasting of muscles. SMA is the #1 genetic killer of young children. It is estimated that SMA occurs in nearly 1 out of every 6,000 births. 1 in every 40 people are carriers.

The Annual Go Leo Go is an event for everyone! We will have a 5k race, a 1 mile family walk and a Lionheart Dash. The Lionheart Dash is for special and exceptional athletes. These athletes will have the option to race in the full 1 mile event, as well as a shorter dash for those that might not be able to endure the 1 mile. All events will be stroller and wheelchair accessible.

Go Leo Go raises awareness for SMA, funds research to find a cure for SMA, supports the medical equipment pool through cureSMA.org and funds the LEO grant. Go Leo Go will have post-race activities for families of all ages! We will also have a costume contest! Go Leo Go is intended to be an event for everyone and to Love Every One. We hope to bring everyone together in celebration of our unique abilities. This the first Go Leo Go with Leo's Pride Foundation established as a 501(c)!
