Race Starting Location:
Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Colorado Springs, CO
The Stories Ultra is a Running race in Colorado Springs, Colorado consisting of a 6 Hour Trail Run (Ultra).
aHow beautiful the world would be, if it were full of stories shared between you and me.a
We all have a story, one that has helped define the person we are today. What if we voiced these stories out loud? What if we shared a piece of who we are with one another? Come tell us your story, hear others share theirs, and run deeper.
The Stories Ultra is a one of a kind timed event with spectacular views of Colorado Springs, and the Pikes Peak Region. We will write a unique question on the back of your bib to ponder as you run. 50k in, we will start asking each of you to share your story, inspired by this question, with us. What are we doing with these stories? They will become a part of our weekly Ultra Stories podcast. The more we share, the better we connect. Most importantly, these stories, yours, ours, and theirs, will become part of a whole new story; the story of the human experience and the celebration of human potential.
15-Hour or 30-Hour Stories Ultra
COURSE: This is one-of-its-kind for a timed event on a multi-loop course. The multi-loop course features 4 loops that each builds distance and gain upon itself collectively.
Loop 1: Red = 2.65 Miles with 249a of gain
Loop 2: Green = 3.63 Miles with 400a of gain
Loop 3: Blue = 6.09 Miles with 597a of gain
Loop 4: The Purple People Eater = 7.24 Miles with 951a of gain
This entire sequence accounts for 19.61 Miles with 2,197a of Gain
Once a runner completes this sequence, they will start it again with the Red Loop, then the Green Loop and so on.
Complete the sequence 5x, plus one more red loop, for 100.7 Miles with 11,234a of elevation gain.
The Golden Hour: Gold Loop = 0.67 Miles with 69a of gain
This loop will be used during the final GOLDEN HOUR of each race. 1p for the 6-hour, 8p for the 15-hour, and 11a Sunday for the 30-hour. Family, friends, pacers, volunteers.. everyone is welcome to run the Gold Loop during the Golden Hour.
6-Hour Stories Ultra
COURSE: This is one-of-its-kind for a timed event on a multi-loop course. The multi-loop course features 2 loops that each builds distance and gain upon itself collectively. 6-hour participants will only run on the Red and Green loops, alternating loops each time out.
Loop 1: Red = 2.65 Miles with 249a of gain
Loop 2: Green = 3.63 Miles with 400a of gain
This entire sequence accounts for 6.28 Miles with 649a of Gain.
STORIES: As runners hit the 50k mark, they become eligible to be taken off course to tell their story. A race staff member will ask the runner at the aid station to exit the course. Runners will follow the staff member, bring all the aid they like, and share their story while being video and audio recorded. You have 10 minutes to tell us whatever story is at the front of your mind. We hope to inspire your story with the question we've written on the back of your bib. Don't be shy, everyone has a story that matters, and we are thrilled that you will be sharing yours with us. Once your story is complete, you will be released back onto the course to run, rest, or do whatever else you see fit.
THE CUT-OFF: You must complete your last loop within the window of your event. If you are in the 6-hour and you finish your final loop at 6:00:01 on the race clock, your final lap will not count. The same goes for 15:00:01 in the 15-hour and 30:00:01 in the 30-hour respectively.
AID STATIONS: This race will feature just one aid location. The aid station will be at the crux point where all loops (as described above) start and end. At most, runners will be away from aid for 7.24 miles in the 15 and 30-hour events. Runners in the 6-hour event will never be more than 1 mile from the aid station.
CREWS AND PACERS (15 and 30-Hour ONLY): Crew access at anytime from arace headquartersa near the main aid station and start/finish line. Pacers can join their 30-hour runner starting Sunday at 6 AM. This means you will have to make friends with other racers if you want a buddy to run with before this. Participants aged 60 years or older may have a pacer at any time.
DROP BAGS/VEHICLE ACCESS: Drop bags are welcome at the main staging area, which is the same location as the start/finish and aid tent. We will have an area designated specifically for drop bags that you may utilize at the beginning and/or end of every loop. You are also welcome to access your vehicle which will be parked in the area immediately surrounding the main staging area as well.
