About The I&M Canal Trail Relay
The I&M Canal Trail Relay is a Running race in Joliet, Illinois consisting of a 65 Mile Relay (Ultra).
The I&M Canal Trail Relay is a one day, 65 mile running relay utilizing the scenic and historic Illinois & Michigan Canal Trail. The race starts 45 miles southwest of downtown Chicago, near Joliet. Teams can be comprised of five people running three legs each over 65 miles, or seven people running two legs each over 63 miles. The trail follows the historic I&M Canal where runners will see historic locks and dams and scenic vistas of five rivers, bluffs, woods, and wetlands. The relay will also pass through historic villages on its way to the finish at the Lock 16 Visitor's Center in LaSalle, IL, which is justKeep Reading a short distance from beautiful Starved Rock State Park.
The trail is mostly crushed limestone and flat. Some sections are a mix of gravel, dirt and grass. The entire route is on the I&M Canal Trail except for a short on-road section near the finish line.
