Panther 5K - Greenville, Illinois - Running

"1st Day 5K"

I try to run this 5K every year. I consider it a good motivational race for the upcoming new year. A very popular race with local running clubs. Clifton Roadrunners, North Jersey Masters and the DeNovo Harriers were all there. Late 11:00 am start works well for New year's Eve party More... runners. Perfect morning. 48 degrees and sunny. Plenty of parking. I've run this race in 15 degree snow and ice conditions so this was a blessing. A fast course with a few uphill climbs in the beginning with a nice 1/4 mile downhill finish. Plenty of bagels, fruit and coffee post race. Trophies for top winners as well as 5 year age brackets which is a new addition. On the what I didn't like about this race I wasn't crazy about the start of the race. A fast not very scenic course. I always look forward to hearing the National Anthem sung or played. NO DJ or music to get the blood pumping. The shirts are ugly white cotton shirts and I'll end up donating it to someone. Not many locals cheering on the runners. Overall I will most likely run it again next year
