ABOUT THIS RACE:
Race Starting Location:
50 Lodge Rd SE, Cartersville, GA
The Red Top 25K/50K is a Running race in Cartersville, Georgia consisting of a 25K Trail Run and 50K Trail Run (Ultra).
While best known for the 12,000 acre lake, Red Top Mountain State Park is also a runner's haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing sections for both newer and experienced runners.
Named for the soil's rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area. Both races will begin on the Iron Hill Trail just past the gravel parking lot. We will only be running on the Iron Hill trail which is a 3.9 mile mostly flat loop. It is a mix of compact dirt and crushed gravel with an elevation gain of about 140 feet. It passes along the shore of Lake Allatoona and part of the former iron ore mining community.
You can see the trail map and elevation profile here.
We will have one aid station near the start/finish of the loop. 25k runners will pass it three times and the 50k will pass it seven. We will have water, Tailwind Nutrition, Huma Gels, fruit, pretzels and chips. If you wish to bring your own items, we will have an area set aside near the aid station for your convienence. Please keep all of your items in one bag that is no larger than a small duffle or back-pack. Also, this area is near the main gravel parking lot so you can head to your vehicle if needed.
25k: Runners will complete four loops for a 15.6 mile journey.
50k: Runners will complete eight loops for a 31.2 mile ultra.
We are limiting these races to 200 total runners.
Both races are great for those looking to run with like-minded people, step up in distance or for veterans who want to set a new PR. All finishers will earn their finishers medal!
Note: There is an 8.5 hour cut-off for both races.
Why would you run a race with multiple loops?
1. You get to see your friends and fellow runners several times.
2. You know exactly where the aid station is on-course.
3. You will be familiar with the course after the 2nd loop.
4. It's laid-back and fun!
These races will begin at the Iron Hill Trail just past the gravel parking lot. While you are not required to stop at the aid station, we will be checking you in after each loop.
