Being from New York I had so much love and appreciation for my hometown, that being said I was still in awe of all these famous landmarks and the privilege of being selected in such an amazing race to be able to run across them. The race wasn't the only part that was amazing every person who made it happen is also amazing. From the moment I walked into Fort Wandsworth till the finish line people where there along the way to not only help but protect us. I feel so blessed to have been a part of this day and hope to run this marathon again. NYRR, TCS and everyone else along the way that makes this day possible deserve a huge round of applause.

Fantastic first marathon of my life! A little worried about the 18 mile emergency call smelt like a gas leak! Other than that, everything went smooth! Including the morning meet spots and getting called into our corrals. Everyone who ran was a pleasure to be with and the crowds cheering us on were amazing!

So. Many. Hills. But the staff are amazing. This was the most grueling race I have ever completed. It was in the rain, and I went in injured. The Good: a Volunteers are A+ and it is a tight ship of organization, flow, and camaraderie. Excellent vibe all around. a Brooklyn and Bronx had the best spectators, Manhattan was just ok (it was raining all day). You feel like there are plenty of non family/friends cheering runners on. a You certainly get a bang for your buck if you've done the training. You get the shirt, the bag, the poncho, the drinks/etc. Probably small when crunched but they do take care of you pre/post race. a Non looping course takes you through all 5 boroughs. No redundancy. The Bad: a Have I mentioned the hills? There were plenty of gradual inclines to slow you down, and then all the bridges do you in. You don't realize it but NYC bridges are HIGH above the water. Even in central park there are tons of hills at miles 24-26.2...which is the last thing we needed then. a I didn't get the "wall of sound" on 1st ave. I heard about, but it was raining all day. a The walk after you cross the finish line takes forever, and it seems to never end...and the worst part is it does feel like the most efficient way they can do it. a SUPER LONG wait time from when you arrive at village and actually run. If you have to commute in, it would be better if there were some later options for provided transporation. The Ugly: a My toenails. *rimshot*

Had an amazing time running the NYC marathon. The weather didn't help as t was cold and a light rain which led to severe cramping by mile 19. So it made the last 7 miles brutal. But nonetheless it was a great experience and it shows how great the city is.

NYC marathon is everything you'd expect and more. The rain did not affect my race and neither did the fire in the Bronx. I drank too much Gatorade and therefore paid the price for it. The volunteers were amazing. Water and everything else that one would need during a race was readily available. I'm running in 2018 again!

After doing two marathons in Napa (beautiful .... but yawn) NYC was a completely different experience. I was totally amazed at the number of people lining the streets for over 90% of the race! The large crowd was so supportive and kind. They really got me through some tough miles. I loved hearing the bands play in each borough. Brooklyn was fun and Harlem was great as well! It was so fun to be part of such a large group of excited runners. I told my 5th grade class that I beat 10,000 people (!) yet.... 40,000 beat me 😂 I'm so grateful to have had this experience. It was the only marathon I wanted to do, and I did it!! I still get emotional about the whole experience. I ❤️ NY!

There is no better way to sight see one of the most amazing cities in the world. Overall the event is very well run and is the experience of a lifetime! There isn't really any post-race party, they do their best to just direct you out of the park. Would have been nice to have a finishers beer with other racers though. The walk from the finish line to the park exit and then back to the family meeting area is brutal, although I'm sure that's why I wasn't sore the next day - I walked and walked and walked after the race! One other thing, the porta-potties at the starting villages were gross by 6:30am. No toilet paper and no hand sanitizer at all. Not nearly enough facilities either. When I finished the race - I couldn't recall seeing a single porta-potty on the course, but I also wasn't specifically looking for one. Still, I feel like I would have noticed. This was my sixth marathon and my favorite. The medals are beautiful and I loved that people continue to wear theirs around the city the next day or two! Even on the flight home!! The ponchos are a really nice touch too!!

By far the best race I have ever taken part in. From packet pickup to the finish line this race is top notch. Spectators make the whole race worthwhile as well. Brooklyn and 1st Ave in Manhattan are crazy!
Amazing race - by , 11/15/2016
5/ 5stars
What an amazing event! So well organized from start to finish. But the best part of the race is the crowd. Coming off the queensboro bridge in to Manhattan gave me the chills. I now know what professional athletes feel like when they step on the field and hear the roar of the crowd! So many people encouraging and giving support. I had one child come up to me while i was stretching around mile 20, who said "queen bee (name on my shirt), you got this! You can do it!". And she was right! While after the race was a bit frustrating due to the 2 mile walk just to get out of the gates area, it's understandable with the size of the crowd. Overall, it was a great way to experience New York city in a different way! I highly recommend this race!

I had a wonderful race with my husband on Nov 6th. It was my first Marathon in the states and I was so impressed with the high level of the organization, the incredible encouragement from the crowd as well as the support of the huge numbers of volunteers giving us the necessary support we need. You do not need to carry lot of food or water with you since there were enough of energy drinks at every mile stop. Prior to the race at the camp there were many tents offering food and drinks to get people ready. My IT band was hurting at mile 9 and there were medical tents in some stops so they helped with a massage. At the end of the race many volunteers were out there helping us getting food and staying warm. If you want really experience NYC, running the NYC marathon is the way to do it!
Best marathon ever - by , 11/12/2016

The crowds make this race amazing and unforgettable. As this was my slowest marathon, I expected the spectators to thin out but I'm was a 5+hr marathoner and for more than half the course the streets were still lined with people who cheer like crazy. It makes you feel racing for the championship! Put your name on your shirt, you will hear it often and will give you a massive boost.

By far the best race I've ever run. The hills made the whole experience so painful and the crowds made the whole experience so worth it there is nothing I could suggest NYC marathon improve. The expo was really good compared to Chicago's 2016 and the atmosphere at the finish line along with the magical poncho walk on Central Park west made this race an experience I will never forget.

Fort wadworth(starting village) was not a good experience, arrived to my corral at 9:01 (corral 1F green village) it had already closed and many other runners like me were not allowed in, eve tho we arrived there one minute late because the bus dropped is late despite getting on the ferry at the right time, that was a bad experience Other than that the race was great

I've never had so much fun running 26 miles in my entire life. Aid stations were great. Crowd support was enormous and deafening. There was music everywhere. It's like NYC threw a party for us. There are obstacles to overcome like getting in and getting up super early to make it to the start on time, but it's definitely worth it
NYC 2013 Marathon - by , 05/07/2014
5/ 5stars
Hands down the greatest race I've ever competed in. From start to finish there was non-stop support from the spectators. Great support from my fellow runners as well. I had cramped up around Queensboro and countless runners urged me to continue on. I really appreciated the extra motivation. The aide stations were more than adequate. The only negative of the race was the wait at Wadsworth. I should have brought more layers due to the cold temperatures. I would highly recommend this race to anyone that can get in.
More than a race -- an experience! - by , 04/17/2014
4/ 4stars
"As a first marathon, the NYC marathon was amazing. The sounds and sights of NYC, and a roaring crowd for nearly the entire race, makes you forget that you are running 26.2 miles (ok, almost). Truly one of the best experiences of my life. The aide stations were great, the race was run smoothly and safely, and the experience was generally smooth. My only complaint is that the pre-and post-race logistics were difficult. I'm not sure there is an easier way, however, sitting in Fort Wadsworth in the freezing cold for four hours before running was brutal. Walking nearly 2 miles after the race to exit Central Park was pretty difficult, too. However, I almost forget those parts because the experience, as a whole, was unforgettably exciting, challenging and wonderful. DO wear a shirt with your name on it -- New Yorkers will cheer you on the whole way. DON'T bring anything valuable to Fort Wadsworth -- you will have to throw it out. HIGHLY recommend to anyone."

Fort wadworth(starting village) was not a good experience, arrived to my corral at 9:01 (corral 1F green village) it had already closed and many other runners like me were not allowed in, eve tho we arrived there one minute late because the bus dropped is late despite getting on the ferry at the right time, that was a bad experience
Other than that the race was great

I've never had so much fun running 26 miles in my entire life. Aid stations were great. Crowd support was enormous and deafening. There was music everywhere. It's like NYC threw a party for us. There are obstacles to overcome like getting in and getting up super early to make it to the start on time, but it's definitely worth it
