Swim
Dive into the crystal clear freshwater of New Zealand's largest lake a" the Great Lake TaupA for your 1.9km Roka swim.
You'll swim along the TaupA lakefront lined with spectators on one side, and with views of the mighty Mount Ruapehu and Tongariro National Park on the other.
Filled with pure fresh water that trickles down from the mountains, Lake TaupA is a pure, clean and clear swimming experience. Water from the lake then flows out down the mighty Waikato river to the sea a few hundred kilometres later.
You'll exit your swim back onto the shoreline of TaupA into the heart of the township that is the home of Triathlon in New Zealand.
Bike
Departing from TaupA, your 90km bike course takes you through stunning New Zealand countryside as you trace the Waikato river heading away from Lake TaupA.
Expect rolling hills that will have you dancing on the pedals, before settling back down into some longer stretches of quiet country road that'll have you admiring the perfect pasture on either side. A mix of wide open countryside and forestry will stretch out in all directions, with your bike cutting a course in between the pristine nature that surrounds you. You'll encounter several crossings of crystal clear rivers and streams, lined with pure New Zealand native bush and erupting with bird song and the sounds of nature.
Finishing up with a descent back into town 90km later, the great lake comes into view with the mighty mountains and welcomes you back into TaupA to start your run.
Run
The 21km HOKA Run course is one of the most picturesque on the IRONMAN circuit, with a combination of lake and mountain views that will distract you from even the most tired of legs.
Following the lakefront path around the many bays of Lake TaupA, the HOKA run course is a mixture of rolling up and down hills, most that are only a few hundred metres long, to break up the monotony of pounding pavement.
While the far end of the HOKA run course is pure unspoilt serenity, as you make your way back to the TaupA township, you'll be greeted by the thousands of adoring spectators and supporters cheering you on with every step you take towards the finish line in the heart of town. This is your moment to soak it all up, realise your amazing accomplishment, and prove that #AnythingIsPossible.
