St. Croix, the largest of the 50-odd islands, islets and cays that comprise the U.S. Virgin Islands, encompasses 84 square miles of natural paradise.
The weather in St. Croix is typically warm and humid but comfortable due to the constant breezes that come off of the water. The island lures honeymooners and beach-goers from all around the world for a reason: it boasts tranquil natural scenery and myriad underwater adventures.
In addition to the stunning under water attractions, the island offers shopping, local art and music, mountainous trails, historical ruins and sub-tropical rainforests, as well as fine dining and local fare. It's rich in cultural history and has plenty to offer in the way of extracurricular activities for all ages.
The swim begins on the beach at the Hotel on the Cay and follows a large triangular course. It's a loop through Christiansted Harbour with a finish at the wharf area. The crowning feature of this race is the legendary climb on the bike course, appropriately named The Beast. Once you've conquered it, you'll never look at a hill the same way again.
