SoCal Vibe
Start your season where the sun shines and beach breezes greet you at every turn. This laid-back community is your perfect race-cation to kick start your season, lined with palm trees and sunsets. Oceanside is a whole vibe - from the stunning beaches to the thriving downtown area. Athletes can walk from the hotel to the venue to the beach, and everything in between. Find adventure for every wavelength.
Oceanside features two incredible opportunities only athletes can experience come race day. From swimming in the Oceanside harbor and biking throughout an activity military base, Camp Pendleton. Athletes will experience one of the top-rated run courses along the Pacific Ocean, stunning views, spectator lined and finishing along the Strand.
Swim
The Athletic Brewing IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside swim starts through the waves along the beach. From a rolling start corral on the beach to start your 1.2 mile swim in the salt water. Once past the break, the course will take you into the harbor, then south towards the harbor boat dock.
Bike
The bike course takes athletes from beautiful Oceanside Harbor through Camp Pendleton, an active military base. This area will give athletes a taste of what Southern California's true beauty entails. After the first 20 miles, athletes leave the coast to head inland. There athletes face the San Mateo Hill and 2 other climbs that will test you both physically and mentally. The final few miles are flat but are usually greeted with a headwind as you head towards the Oceanside Harbor to start your run course.
No Speeding - No Passing Zone on Basilone Rd (approx 39 A½ miles). Speed limit MUST be 25 miles per hour or less as an average on that section. There are signs and tape across the road at the top and the bottom of the speed zone. There will be a one-speed trailer in the middle of the section but do not assume it is tracking each person individually. It is a guide. Failure to comply will be an automatic disqualification!
All Athletes Must Wear Bib on the Bike Course as Required for Identifying on the Base and State Park
Due to Camp Pendleton's security, no pre-riding of the course will be allowed race week. No spectators will be allowed on base. Please understand that we are very fortunate to have use of Camp Pendleton.
