This race was one of the most amazing experiences of my lifetime. I have never seen so much crowd support in a city, and felt so much love as I ran alongside thousands of other runners. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Sweet home Chicago is my hometown marathon. The course is flat, fast, and a great opportunity to push your limits and show off the results of all those summer miles logged under the heat and humidity while your friends sought shelter and air conditioning. This year's race had perfect weather and created a backdrop that made me proud to call Chicago home and allowed Chicago to showcase itself to so many visitors. Even though I call Chicago my home, this 26.2 miles took me to parts of my city that even I haven't been to! The entire city rallies around you, regardless if you are leading the pack or caught somewhere in the middle, or just enjoying the experience and running near the back. Some runners have disagreed about the tshirt designs or medal designs. I don't run for tshirt. I don't run for a medal. I run for the experience and memories, and the Chicago marathon has provided me enough of that to last a lifetime. Whether it's someone's first marathon attempt or they are a marathon vet, Chicago provides a world class experience. Do not miss your chance to run throughout this beautiful city!

World class race with a taste of home - by , 10/22/2016

My first ever marathon was chicago 2011 and since then I have run full marathons and half marathons a total of 20 plus but I always go back to Chicago. The vibe is positive, the view is timeless and the people runners volunteers and spectators alike are warm, friendly and very supportive. Its the warm feeling just like coming home to visit grandma's house. The multiple times I have run this race I can visualize every turn and andulation of the course but yet each time it's a new experience again to me. I always make a point to wave at the senior citizen home around mile 7 and 8 thinking same resident is still there from last year waved and cheered me on. Yes I will always run the Chicago marathon year after year to complete my running fix hopefully until in my 90's and beyond. Sweet home Chicago!!!

This was the 2nd year I ran the Chicago Marathon. Love the course, love all the spectators! This year there was an issue leaving Grant Park. Huge cluster of people trying to get back to Michigan Ave, all the gates prevented everyone from exiting smoothly. There was alot of standing and waiting to get through. I felt like I was waiting in line at Disney World. Not a great experience after just having run 26.2 miles. I also think the shirts could be alot nicer. How about a nicer quality long sleeve or a jacket? I do like the shuttle going to and from the expo. That is awesome! This year I didn't get to the expo until Saturday afternoon and the booth that sells the race mementos (glasses, coffee mugs etc) was sold out! Overall, great race in the greatest city!

3rd Times The Charm - by , 10/21/2016

This was my year...they say 3rd times the charm and it was! My first Chicago marathon was in 2012, 2nd in 2015 and this was my 3rd. My goal since the beginning was to come in below 5 hours. I knew it was in me, but due to injury and getting sick right before race day in years past I never got there. The weather on marathon Sunday was perfect. The crowd and atmosphere just as perfect. Having my family and my running crew, Three Run Two, out there -- cheering not only me on , but my fellow marathoners -- made my heart burst with love. I ran with one of my running partners, and although we stopped at several med stations because she was cramping, we were determined to break the 5 hour wall. The med staff...AMAZING! We did it, 4:57:54. The goal for 2017 - 4:20 or less! Watch out 2017 #ChiMarathon...i'm coming...better and even stronger!

I wanted a fun race for my first marathon, and Chicago was just that! The course is flat and fast, and goes through some of the most iconic parts of the city. The entire course is lined with people cheering you on! The volunteers are amazing, the weather was amazing, and finishing was amazing! The race is a great event for both experienced and novice marathoners. I definitely plan on running the Chicago marathon again!

This was my 2nd Chicago marathon, my 7th marathon including The NYC marathon, chicago, by far is the most entertaining, well organized, easy to run marathon. This is the 1 marathon I hope to run until I'm 90 or beyond. The city, spectators and runners all come together for one goal and its beyond exciting to see and experience.

This was great for my first race! Also wish there were more bathrooms before the race. It's a nice and flat course and spectators the whole way. The medal and shirt could be improved but overall super happy with the race! The volunteers were so nice and encouraging.
Excellent Race Start to Finish - by , 10/20/2016
5/ 5stars
After hearing nothing but positive reviews from friends and teammates that have previously run Chicago, I had high expectations and the entire weekend did not disappoint. From the most organized and efficient packet pick-up (genius!) to the convenience of so many hotels to the start/finish line, and the flat and fast course, this was by far the best overall experience I've had in a marathon to date. The on-course support was amazing, the course itself was excellent, and the post-race festival was a brilliant added touch to celebrate 26.2 miles of achievement. If I had to nit-pick one element, it would be the lack-luster medal. For being a marathon major, I'd expect a little more elegance and something that stands out a bit more.

For a world marathon and after running other world marathons, i expected better logistics, communications and planning. Not enough time between corralls, expo oddly laid and lack of communication for what to do and where to go before hand. Not enough nutrition, ran out before half of the participants came through

This year was my first time running the Chicago marathon. It is a world class race. Amazing scenery and outstanding crowd support! I could not believe that there were supporters at every mile of the marathon! Need more toilets before the race and on the course. Also, getting out after the race was cumbersome. But I would do it again in a heartbeat!

This was my first year running the Chicago marathon and hopefully not my last! It has aways been on my bucket list of things to do and races to run. It did not disappoint! It truly was a great experience and well orchestrated. This was a city wide event and loved how so many people in the city came out to cheer us on on every street. The only thing that could change is maybe the expo layout. I love Expos and could spend a lot of time and money at them. I understand the reasoning behind having the Nike booth/section right up front. With so many people attending the expo and trying to pick up their packet items having Nikes store/ booth right up front made it really congested. So many people (along with me) wanted to shop in Nike but it was so crowded because of people entering expo and passing through. Other than that, I loved the Chicago marathon and hope to be back next year!

A Race for Everyone - by , 10/18/2016

Since I was a freshman in high school, I told my dad and my sister we were running the Chicago Marathon in 2016 (the year I graduated from college). This race meant more to me than any race before. I was so excited to reach that starting line and GO! From the very first step, I couldn't be happier to there. My dad and my sister (who had raced Chicago multiple times before) told me its an experience unlike any other. They were right. There were multiple times throughout the race I found myself fighting back tears (of joy/amazement). The crowd, the volunteers, the runners, the city... the energy of this race is indescribable. You'll never feel more determined and motivated in your life, even when your legs are cramping up like never before. The best thing about Chicago is it's a race of 40,000 people who come from every type of background. Old, young, beginner runners, and elite runners. This isn't a race that makes you feel out of place, it's a race for everyone. If you're looking to run a race that will change you in a positive way both physically and mentally, I would highly suggest the Chicago Marathon!
26.2 Miles of Fun! - by , 10/18/2016
5/ 5stars
This was my second time running Chicago and it won't be my last! There are crowds cheering you on the whole way and you get the best views of the city. The course is pretty flat with a slight uphill in the last .2 mile. I like to think it really makes you earn that post race beer if you sprint up it ;) Everything from the expo to the post race party is exciting and fun for the whole family. The only thing I would comment on as a con would be that because there were so many people, the smashed cups around the aid station that hadn't been pulled away got a little slippery.

This was my third year running the Chicago Marathon and its still by far the event I look forward to the most each years. As a resident of Chicago, I always feel like the event is just a giant tour of my city. As much as I hate running near the United Center, most of the course shows the diversity and beauty of Chicago. There is also nothing like the Chicago Marathon spectators. You never feel more supported. The atmosphere is purely electric. Every single year though the medal is a giant let down. The three Chicago Marathon medals I have on my shelf right now are arguably the ugliest three I own. They are dull and boring. ALSO this year it was near impossible to get out of the Post-Race area. I felt totally bottle necked and that I could be trampled under the right circumstances. Seriously needs to be revisted Not a good feeling right after running 26 miles.

Fab. First and labor last marathon. Highlight was stopping at mile 13 for a quick stretch out with one of the amazing on course massage therapists. I was able to finish the second half faster than the first half. Loved the course, the amazing fans and the finish line! The post party is way too crowded for my liking but with 40,000 runners, that's to be expected.

I have ran many Chicago marathons, I love this race but I do believe they need to make next years medal a SPECIAL 40th and make it look as such!!!! One more things instead of bananas on miles 22 maybe you should move them maybe to mile 18.. I also just complete Berlin marathon and at every aid stations they had water, their brand of Gatorade, tea, sliced apples and peeled bananas.. JUST SAYING!!!
Hands down great race! - by , 10/17/2016

This was hands down one of the best races I have ever competed in. The expo was extremely well organized, with the shuttle buses flowing seamlessly from the local Hyatt Regency where I boarded. The organization at the starting line was fantastic. Everything was well marked, and every volunteer I met actually felt like they wanted to be there to help you, unlike other races where they seem lethargic and bummed out about being there. The course was great, flat and fast. Great # of aid stations, only thing I'd say is add some pretzel stops (always good to have something solid to eat out there). You really do run through what seems like 20+ neighborhoods. I would run this race again in a heartbeat. There is very little I would change about it. Compared to NYC Marathon, way easier to get to, many many more hotels making it easy to walk to and from the start and finishing lines.

Absolutely amazing race. It's my city's race, and I can't tell you how proud I am to call this marathon my hometown race! 1.5 million people line the streets and cheer for you to make it to the end. It's an Olympic style marathon, high quality amenities, and an experience you'll never forget. You must make this race part of your racing schedule very soon!

This was much first marathon and it was an awesome experience. The course and crowd support was top notch from beginning to end. Water and Gatorade were plentiful. I do wish the finishers medals were a bit more elaborate for such an elite world class event. At the finish line, runners had to walk such a long distance to get a final bottle of water, banana, etc after finishing the course and the post race party may as well have been in China. Way too far to walk. I finished in 5 hours and I like that runners who finished after the 6:30 had times on the official site. Not everyone is an elite runner but all deserve the recognition that comes from completing the course.

The best in town! But I have to say that Chicago Marathon could do. Better job at their medals, com'on! This years was better, but they have pretty ugly finishing medals compared to my other events. On another note, it was nearly impossible to leave the gated area. All runners where guided to one lane exit, where everyone was standing because of all of the human traffic and friends and family where blocking the exit from the other side. Chicago will always be my top running event, but those two are my least favorites.

I was so excited to be part of this amazing event! It was action packed for all 26.2 miles! The course was great! The city of Chicago was so pretty! I loved seeing the tall skyscrapers on every corner & was also charmed by the quaintness of every neighborhood we ran thru. The spectators were energizing every step of the way! I'm not really a marathon girl but I am so glad I made it in the lottery pick! I will cherish my medal & my Chicago Marathon experience forever!

Chicago is one of, if not the best marathon. The crowd is packed along the route, cheering on all of the runners the entire time. The course is almost entirely flat. The volunteers and workers are incredibly supportive and helpful and everything runs like clockwork. This was my 4th time running Chicago and I really can't think of a single complaint. I guess if I could change one thing, I would like an option to have the packet mailed to me, although going to the expo is always a good time as well.

The Chicago Marathon is one of the World Marathon Majors and the city is unlike most others. The energy literally pulses through runners as we pass the 1 million spectators along the course! It's a flat fast course and before you know it, you're approaching mile 26 and the roar of the stands can be heard over music or even your thoughts. I'd highly recommend this race to any marathoner, especially first timers. It's sure to leave you on a high note!

Completed the Bank of America Chicago Marathon for the 3rd straight year...and I didn't think it was possible to love this race anymore than I already do! The race is well organized from the time you register, to when you cross the finish line. It is a relatively flat course and you have the opportunity to see so many different neighborhoods/pockets of Chicago you may not visit otherwise (whether you live in the city or you are a visitor). I would recommend this race to anyone - whether it is your first marathon or your fifteenth. You can't beat it!

This is the 5th time I have run the Chicago Marathon and it NEVER disappoints. This is absolutely the best marathon around. With over 40,000 runners and over 1 million spectators, no runner is every without entertainment or inspiration over the 26.2 miles. While in the past there have been some patches in the last few miles is less fans, this year, every part of the 26.2 miles was filled with fans willing you to the finish!!! This is a great flat and very fast course. Perfect for beginners as well. Will definitely do this again!!!

3rd Times The Charm
RaceThread.comRaceThread.comRaceThread.comRaceThread.comRaceThread.com 10/21/2016
pilsenite

Excellent Race Start to Finish

This was my second Marathon and my first trip to Chicago! This was such a fun run. There were hundreds of people cheering for the runners in every mile!! As a runner, I never wanted to stop running because the support and encouragement was so great!! Definitely would recommend this to anyone wanting to run their first or 10th marathon. I hope to come back to Chicago and do this again!!

The best way to tour a city is on foot~

The Chicago Marathon is one of the World Marathon Majors and the city is unlike most others. The energy literally pulses through runners as we pass the 1 million spectators along the course! It's a flat fast course and before you know it, you're approaching mile 26 and the roar of the stands can be heard over music or even your thoughts. I'd highly recommend this race to any marathoner, especially first timers. It's sure to leave you on a high note!

What an amazing race! It was fast and flat. The support was amazing. I kept waiting for a quiet section that I had read about on the blogs. There were fans lined along the whole course! The support from the spectators gave me so much energy!

This was my second time running the boa Chicago marathon. This is great for first timers participating because the land is flat and the volunteers and crows are amazing. The crowd and volunteer are really what makes the boa a great and energetic experience. Only downside if the medals are not that great.
