The Challenge Family understands there are many choices on the race calender. We realize how much time, money, effort and sacrifices it takes in order to acheive the dream of completing a 140.6 mile race. This is why we believe it is important for YOU to know who is behind Challenge Atlantic City.
Challenge Atlantic City is all about the athlete experience, the love of triathlon, and the crossing the finish line with friends, family, and loved ones. There is nothing like the moment when a finish line first comes into sight. This is where dreams are realized and where we will leave you speechless. How will we do that? The TEAM below will cover ever detail possible to ensure an experience of a lifetime.
"Note - I did the Aquabike, not the full 140.6 - there is no option to select this.
This was the first year this race was offered so take this with a grain of salt.
Pickup - Rinny and Macca were there. Got pics were both. Triathlete geek heaven.
Swim - This is the most challenging swim I've ever done (my 3rd 2.4mi swim). The current and the salt made this very tough. There were a few little islands where people stood to catch their breath. I considered it a water treadmill. My 2.4 PR is 1:25 and this took me 2:04. Very humbling. Check the course beforehand - there was one turn that sent me for a loop mentally because I thought I was almost done.
Bike - Biking on the AC expressway... wow. The way out was very cool with the cars and wind at your back, the way back was unnerving and very challenging. Mostly flat course but the wind in some spots was intense.
Crowd support - there's two places where you can pass spectators that bus over, otherwise pretty hard for spectators to get to the bike course. Pretty lonely if you're at the back of the group like I was. I think the only people I passed DNF'd.
Altogether - it was cool to do a race in AC and I may have a different opinion if I did the full and finished on the boardwalk. This was great prep for my first 140.6, IMLP a month later. Hopefully it gets bigger as it gets more publicized, I pictured challenge events to be a bigger deal. Otherwise well run."
